A former assistant superintendent of the Iowa State Physical Plant died Saturday of heart failure.

Everett Bartels, 89, died in his home in Madrid. Funeral services were held Tuesday, and he was buried in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Bartels lived in Ames for 36 years and graduated from ISU with a degree in mechanical engineering.

Bartels was preceded in death by his wife, Iola Van Wyk, and two sisters.

He is survived by three daughters, two sons and one sister.
