‘Joe Six-Pack wrong’ writer wrong as well

Alan Ellis

I read Randall Watts’ letter “Joe Six-pack wrong” online with considerable amusement.

Mr. Watts rails against the broad-brush comments of another writer while making broad-brush comments of his own.

He states, “If you don’t like how things are in the Midwest right now, there is a place where I am sure you and your bigoted views will fit right in: Anywhere south of the Mason-Dixon Line, about 150 years ago.”

That comment ignores the incredible diversity and rich history of the South and demonstrates a distasteful bigotry.

The South has had problems, but to make such a statement ignores historical fact and demonstrates an extraordinary ignorance.

Mr. Watts, you also have much to learn. Broad, sweeping statements are never appropriate. One can only hope that maturity brings with it this valuable lesson.
