DeMarse is wrong

Joe Moon

I read Ron DeMarse’s column Monday after the Colorado game. I am tired of the hypocrisy. When the Cyclones win, you are Dan McCarney’s best friend, but when the team loses you are the first to stab him in the back. Who are you to decide whether his decisions are wrong?

What Division I football team do you coach? I believe he is the one that is getting paid by the university to coach, not you. I don’t agree with every decision Mr. McCarney makes, but who does?

The difference between you and me is that I don’t go to press with my grievances. I also do not attack coaches for making decisions. This is what they are paid to do.

Until you write a good column, don’t criticize others’ faults. I work for the football team. I know these players.

You are not an expert as you claimed in your article. Coach McCarney and his staff are experts.

You think as a fan, but Mr. McCarney has to think as a coach. I am at school to be a coach so I know what I have to do. I have to study this game like it is my hardest subject. I think you need to re-evaluate your decisions to criticize Coach McCarney’s field decisions because coaches make mistakes every once in a while, too.

When you said mistakes by coaches are inexcusable, you were wrong. Everyone makes mistakes; why should coaches be any different? The Cyclones are still 4-3, a record ISU hasn’t seen for a while.

Coach McCarney and his staff deserve credit for turning this team around. I hope that in the future you will take this letter into account when you go to write your Monday column.
