Dancing in the Streets

The award-winning modern dance troupe, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, will shuffle into Ames on Sunday in accordance with their national tour.

Hubbard Street is known for their high energy and innovative styles.

“This dance troupe is one of the best in the nation,” said Paul Ferrone, director of performing arts programming for Stephens Auditorium.

The Hubbard Street Dance Chicago performs pieces by many world-class choreographers such as Twyla Tharp and Daniel Ezralow.

The troupe is made up of 14 talented and experienced dancers, all of whom have had dance experience with Broadway dancing and other types of theatrical dancing.

The pieces planned for Sunday’s show include many lifts and elaborate visual techniques.

“This group is great; you can look forward to very creative movement and a very eclectic style.” Ferrone added.

The Hubbard Street Dance Chicago has a very diverse dance vocabulary, as their shows are filled with everything from the most up-to-date modern dance moves to classical ballet.

The Chicago Sun Times has described the group’s show as “pure bliss, pure movement, pure joy.”

“This troupe is the best you can get; they are fabulous.” Ferrone stated.

The Iowa State center is known for bringing premiere dance shows to Ames. In the past, Stephens Auditorium has featured show stoppers such as the Tap Dogs, among others.

And the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago will continue that tradition of dance programming.
