Infant swim classes being offered

Daily Staff Writer

Residents of Ames and nearby communities can teach their young children to swim through a class hosted by Iowa State’s College of Education.

The classes are open to infants and toddlers younger than 2, and they are offered Nov. 1 through Nov. 18 on Mondays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.

Parents attend the sessions with their children, helping them develop a routine and become comfortable in water, according to a press release.

They also will learn ways to increase their children’s safety near water and practice techniques to teach them to swim.

Kathi Thomas-Thomas, associate professor of health and human performance, will teach the lessons.

Lessons will be in the swimming pool of the Barbara E. Forker Building. Participants must register by Oct. 27, and the lessons cost $60.

For more information, contact Thomas-Thomas at 294-8677.
