SUB to revive Ziggy Stardust concert

July 3, 1973 — the final concert of David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust. For some a moment to remember, others a moment to forget.

Either way, Iowa State students can relive the infamous moment in rock history this weekend as Student Union Board films brings “Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.”

The concert film will be shown nightly at 8 p.m. from Oct. 7 through Oct. 9 in the Pioneer Room of the Memorial Union. Ninety-one minutes packed full of glam rock only cost $2.

Java Joe’s open mic in Des Moines offers the perfect opportunity to express yourself without doing it in front of people you’ll see in class the next day. Sign up begins at 6:30 p.m. with the open mic going from 8 to 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights.

Rage Against the Machine’s third album, “The Battle of Los Angeles,” will be appropriately released on Election Day, Nov. 2. Later that evening Rage is scheduled to appear on “The Late Show With David Letterman,” according to Rocktropolis.

“AntiPop,” the new record from Primus should be available Oct. 19, according to CDNow. The band will be touring throughout November in support of the album, with Incubus and Buckethead scheduled as opening acts.

Buckethead’s latest work, “Monsters and Robots” features a guest appearance by Primus and is currently available on CyberOctave Records. Buckethead plans to release “Make Yourself” on Oct. 26 on Epic.

The trio of bands will be a few hours drive away later next month, when they play at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago on Nov. 18 and at the American Theatre in St. Louis on Nov. 20.

Some Matador bands have made their way into the visual media realm according to the label’s Web site. Cat Power’s “In This Hole,” can be found on the Abel Ferrara film, “New Rose Hotel.” The Lynnfield Pioneers and The Arsonists both had tunes on the USA cable show “GvsE.” The last “Mission Hill” episode featured tracks from Pavement and Cat Power, while Railroad Jerk’s “Bang the Drum” was played on “Suits.”
