Explain yourself

Nathan Treloar

It’s funny that, in our enlightened society of tolerance and diversity, people are still expected to explain themselves.

I disagree with Mr. Graham’s letter in Monday’s edition of the Daily; faith, by definition, has no explanation.

It is impossible for a person of any religion to give a scientific, historical, or even reasonable explanation as to why they believe.

A person’s life is little more than the sum of their experiences. The majority of people on this planet have been witness to an experience for which they can find no explanation.

Whether it’s a prayer being answered or comfort during a crisis, people’s compulsion for meaning eventually transcends the logic they hold so dear and evolves into faith. This is the cornerstone of Christianity, as well as all religions.

Whether you’re a Christian or not, whether you’re a minority or not, you are your perceptions. That’s why everyone else is different.
