Contact your senator
October 12, 1999
On Wednesday night, like every Wednesday night, the GSB senate will discuss issues that effect the students of ISU.
I hope this Wednesday is different. I hope that this Wednesday, the senators make a decision after hearing from all of their constituents. The items before the senate include two resolutions dealing with Veishea and reaffirming the alcohol-free pledge.
Whether students are for or against either of the resolutions, I strongly encourage all of them to voice their opinions.
Each student is represented by both residence area and college. In some cases, a specialty seat replaces one of the others.
In either case, every student has at least two representatives on the senate. Two people that are only members of the senate to serve them.
The best ways to voice an opinion are to contact GSB senators, go to the GSB senate meeting and speak during the student forum. To get contact information for GSB senators, call the GSB office at 294-1585, stop by the GSB office in the MU’s East Student Office Space or go to www.gsb.iastate.edu.
The senate is going to make a decision regarding Veishea that will have an impact on all of us. If the senate is to make a decision that accurately reflects student opinion, the senators must know what student opinion is. We must put an end to apathy for our government. Students must learn that they need to stand up for what they believe.
I urge all students to help their GSB senators make the decision the students want, whatever that may be.
