New campus organization

Aletia Van Brocklin

I’m writing this letter to draw attention to a relatively new campus organization that offers students a different perspective on religious issues than what is commonly heard on campus.

This group is CLUUES-Campus Led Unitarian Universalists Exploring Spirituality.

Unitarian Universalism is a religion that has no creed and does not base its ideas on any one religious text, believing that there is no single channel of religious faith.

Instead, it stresses individual conviction and belief, religious tolerance, and an environment that allows individuals to explore and draw from many sources of spirituality.

While there is no creed a person must adhere to, Unitarian Universalism is not completely without a core set of values. There are basic principles most Unitarian Universalists ascribe to: the inherent worth and dignity of every person; justice equity, and compassion in human relations; acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth; a free and responsible search for truth and meaning; the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large; the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all; and respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

I invite anyone who is questioning or who is exploring alternate religions to check out the campus group.

Our next meeting is this Sunday, October 17, at 6 p.m. at the Sloss House on campus.
