An Iowa State student was mugged at gun point on Welch Avenue during the early morning hours Sunday, according to the Ames Police Department.

Sgt. James Robinson, Ames Police public information officer, said the 19-year old student, whose name has not been released, was walking on the sidewalk in the 100 block of Welch Avenue at 2:30 a.m. Sunday when he was approached by four individuals on foot.

One of the individuals produced a handgun and asked the victim for his money, Robinson said. The victim handed over an undisclosed amount of cash. No other valuables were taken, and there were no injuries.

Robinson said the suspect toting the gun was a black man wearing a blue jacket. Two other suspects were black men wearing gray sweatshirts. The fourth suspect was a black man wearing a maroon hooded sweatshirt.

All of the suspects were between 5 foot 9 inches and 6 feet tall.

Ames Police still are investigating the robbery.
