A good defense

Matt Graham

I found Jesse Ventura’s statements about organized religion interesting. He says that religion is for “weak-minded people.”

After reading many articles in the Daily about Christian persecution and Christians who are offended by Dr. Avalos’ classes, I find myself sympathizing with Ventura on this point.

I could easily see how an observer could come to that conclusion.

Unfortunately many believers do not understand the epistemological or metaphysical foundations of their faith.

This leads non-Christians to say things like, “Organized religion is a sham and a crutch for weak-minded people who need strength in numbers.”

This belief is in part due to the shallow arguments many Christians give in account for their faith.

This is unfortunate because there are many reasons for believing the Christian faith.

It is not a blind faith that only exists because of an individuals subjective experience.

Nor is it a huge support group for those who are in a self perpetuated delusional state.

I would urge Christians to “always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.” (1 Peter 3:15-16 NKJV)

It takes hard work and lots of study to back up your faith, but it IS worth it! Not only will you have a better understanding of the world, but your view of God will be expanded too.
