Nontraditional

Kate Johnson

My name is Kate Johnson, and I am the president of the adult student group responsible for the selection of the nontraditional senator.

I was very shocked to see the article about our senator on the front page of the Daily, not because we were unaware of the situation, but because our organization would have liked to have been contacted and told that the bill was going to be read yesterday, so that we could have come and been represented at the meeting.

We were contacted by Alex Olson about two weeks ago and made aware of the situation with Senator Redmond. Our organization specifically asked Olson, who was responsible for drafting the bill, not to write the bill until Senator Redmond had missed the three meetings he was granted by the constitution of GSB. We appreciate Olson’s help on the matter, as it allowed us time to look into where Senator Redmond might have gone.

Once we were aware of Senator Redmond’s “Missing in Action” status, we did everything in our power to contact him; but, it was to no avail.

There are many unfounded rumors going about on this campus as to what happened to Darrell. We do know that he is gone, and it is true that nobody seems to be able to contact Senator Redmond. Our sources tell us that he has left the ISU community. Yet with no confirmation from Senator Redmond himself, rumors about what has happened to him or where he has gone are nothing but hearsay and speculation and we ask that these rumors not be propagated any longer.

We have begun the process of finding a new nontraditional Senator. We will be holding interviews of people interested in the senate seat on Monday, October 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Non-traditional or adult students interested in the seat should contact me at my office 294-5470 or at [email protected].
