Daily needs to take more care in its photo surveys

Kelly A. Molln

I would like to comment on the photo survey in Tuesday’s Daily.

The question proposed was “What do you think about the cutbacks in Student Security?”

All students questioned are freshmen, and all but one thought that security is more than sufficient.

First and foremost, I am disappointed in the Daily for their selection of participants.

The participants have only been here for two weeks, and it is impossible for them to have an accurate depiction of campus security.

These students have no point of reference as to the the number of on-duty security representatives as compared to past years.

Second, my own experiences speak for themselves.

During my sophomore year, my safety was jeopardized not once, but twice in a place that I considered to be my home — the residence halls.

In concern for the safety of all students, I want everyone to know that we are no longer living in “small town Iowa” where we know everyone and don’t worry about locking our doors at night.

There is no such thing as a safety guarantee.

In the future, I hope the Daily uses more discretion with their surveys.
