The Center for LGBTQIA+ Student Success had a film screening for the documentary “MAJOR!” Tuesday night.

A small group of students attended the film screening, though it was delayed for an hour due to technical difficulties. As such the Center is planning on having a second screening of the event for students and community members who could not make it to the original event or stay for the late showing that night. The second screening date will be announced by the Center at a later date.

The film “MAJOR!” covered the long and activism filled life of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a black transgender woman. Through her depiction in the documentary, it seems Griffin-Gracy has lived her life full of openness and realism that the people she has helped over the years have appreciated and mirrored.

“My favorite part [of the film] was the journey, there are so many powerful pieces,” said Brad Freihoefer, director of the Center for LGBTQIA+ Student Sucess.

Freihoefer said that one important takeaway from the documentary was the collage of videos at the end where many different individuals from many different backgrounds state the phrase “I am still here,” which symbolized the continued fight that Griffin-Gracy and the rest of the transgender community live through everyday.

For those interested in watching the documentary on their own time, it is available at Parks Library.
