I-35 construction partly completed

Part of the reconstruction of southbound I-35 between U.S. Highway 30 and Ellsworth is complete, and the northbound and southbound rest areas in that stretch have re-opened.

The segment beginning one-half mile south of the Ames Conservation exit extending south to the 13th Street exit still is under construction and is expected to reopen in mid to late October.

Property tax deadline nears

Property taxes for the first half of the 1999-2000 fiscal year are due on Sept. 30, according to the Story County Treasurer’s Office.

A penalty of 1.5 percent will be attached beginning Friday.

Mailed payments must have a September postmark, and the payment coupon from the property tax statement must accompany all payments.

The treasurer’s office will have extended hours Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
