Man found dead in west Ames home
August 25, 1999
A man was found dead Wednesday evening, an apparent victim of a homicide.
Ames Police were dispatched to a mobile home at 3507 Lincoln Way #26 at about 6 p.m. after receiving two 911 telephone calls, one from a nearby residence and one from the Toyota of Ames, 3605 Lincoln Way, advising of an assault in progress.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered the body of a white male in his late 30s to mid-40s, said Sgt. Randy Kessel, public information officer of the Ames Police Department. The inside of the home was “disheveled” when police arrived, indicating a struggle, he said.
“At this time, we are sure we have a homicide on our hands,” Kessel said.
Police did not release the man’s name, and it is not known if he resided at the residence at University Mobile Home Park.
“There were two white males on the exterior of the trailer [when we arrived],” Kessel said. “We don’t know if the two men live there. They were taken to the police department for questioning.”
Kessel stressed that the men were not charged with any crime, nor are they suspects at this time.
“They are not suspects, but we are very interested in getting their side of the story,” he said.
The Department of Criminal Investigation in Des Moines was at the scene Wednesday night collecting forensic evidence. The body was still inside the residence shortly after 11 p.m.
“Without the coroner information, we are not sure of the cause of death,” Kessel said.
Kessel said the body will be taken for investigation and examined by the coroner. The area, the scene of the incident and the adjacent trailer, was sealed off to the public.
