The ISU Rhodes Research Farm will be hosting a swine field day today at 1 p.m.

The field day is being hosted by the Practical Farmers of Iowa, in cooperation with Iowa Farm Bureau, and demonstrations will feature Hoophouse Swine, which is an alternative system in swine production.

The demonstrations will cover gestation in hoops, economics, housing, health, composting, behavior and systems.

The field day continues with a second session beginning at 4 p.m. at the farm of Dave and Becky Struthers and will cover labor requirements for hoophouse swine production and yield goal verses testing-based nitrogen recommendations for corn and sidedressing.

Lighting project closes lanes on Stange Road

Some lanes of Stange Road will be closed this week due to an Iowa State street lighting project.

Street light poles will be moved from the east to west side of Stange Road between the railroad track overpass north of Pammel Drive and the entrance to Veenker Golf Course.

The sidewalks on both sides of the road should remain passable for cyclists and pedestrians.

ISU officials expect the new lights to improve lighting along Stange Road.
