Web page links GSB, students

Government of Student Body members hope to keep students more informed about the organization by updating their Web site more frequently, as well as having more information available on it.
The new page, which was posted July 29 at www.gsb.iastate.edu, will have a different layout, coinciding with GSB’s new president and vice president, Matt Craft and Garrett Toay, said Barry Snell, GSB co-director of technological resources.
“We got new leadership, so we needed a new Web page,” he said. “The new page is totally redone — it is a lot more modern, with faster loading and much easier navigation.”
Jared McLaren, GSB co-director of technological resources, said the page has an entirely new interface and creative new graphics.
For the first time, the site also will include a finance page to review GSB’s allocation process.
Snell, sophomore in computer science, said updating the page has been problematic in the past.
“I would take a look at the page, and under the old current events section would be things that were months old and nothing new,” he said.
“The legislation was also slow to get on the page.”
Snell’s goal is to get all GSB information up within 48 hours.
“I am taking personal responsibility for this year,” Snell said.
“Part of Matt and Garrett’s platform was to reduce student apathy, and I think the Web page is one way to do that. More and more students are using the Web to do more than just check e-mail,” he said.
McLaren, junior in management information systems, said part of last year’s problem with keeping the page updated could have been a lack of communication and time among the directors of the page.
Open GSB seats also will be posted on the page.
Snell hopes people will see the open positions and come to the GSB office to fill out applications.
McLaren said the page also will feature a feedback section for students to voice their complaints or opinions about GSB.
