Bikers in Ames

Jerry Scott

In response to Aaron Woell’s column about the west side of Ames decaying, I must say I never thought of it that way, but I do get irritated at having to drive to the east side of town for most of my shopping.

But when he brought up Porky’s in Des Moines, I have to wonder how close he actually lives to the west side of Ames and where has he been on Sunday nights?

Beginning in June and continuing with every Sunday except for Aug. 8, the owner of Wallaby’s, Rick Carmer, and I have been putting on bike nights at Wallaby’s with a bike show and biker rodeo at least once a month.

In fact we just had a rodeo last Sunday.

These events are free and open to the public.

We range from 50-100 people each Sunday and we are outside in the parking lot.

If you can make it to Porky’s, where have you been on Sundays?

We also have all ages of people come out of Hy-Vee and turn around on Lincolnway to just come back and join us in the fun.

I invite you to come and see what is really going on in west Ames.
