Greimann announces democratic candidacy

Ames Democrat Jane Greimann has announced her candidacy for the Ames district representative position in the Iowa House of Representatives and plans to focus her efforts on issues involving parents and children.

Though current representative Cecelia Burnett (D-Ames) has not officially resigned, she announced two weeks ago that she would vacate the position shortly.

Greimann said Burnett asked her to consider the position quite a while ago and currently endorses Greimann’s campaign.

“She knows my interest and a little bit about my background, and she asked me to consider it,” Greimann said.

She said she is interested in supporting affordable child care, initiating education to new parents and encouraging parents to learn more about child development.

“I have worked with young people, and I feel strongly about working to improve the education of our youth,” Greimann said. “I want to be sure they have a voice.”

Raised in northern Iowa, Greimann graduated from Iowa State’s College of Family and Consumer Science and has lived in Story County for more than 26 years.

She currently serves on the Youth and Shelter Services Education and Prevention Committee, the Public Art Commission of Ames and is co-chairwoman of Wednesday Christian Education at Collegiate Presbyterian Church.

She said the Story County Democrats will make a final decision on whether to support her for the election on July 27, giving time for other party members to come forward for the position.

She said she has only heard rumors about some Republicans running in the election and has not heard anything about fellow party members competing for the slot.

The seat will be filled in a special election on a date that will be determined by the governor.
