Goodbyeeee!
April 30, 1999
Well, it has been quite a year here, in our opinion. We’ve talked about wars, school-shootings, “riots” and “dry” celebrations.
We’ve seen debates about homosexuals and Christianity fought out in the letters.
There’s been some name calling and insinuations, but we’re all the better for it.
We’ve seen vegetarians going at it whole hog with carnivores because even vegetarians can’t go whole “carrot” with someone.
We’ve read Quick Es high and low. Some made us laugh, some made us fighting mad, but they all made someone cry.
We’ve seen cartoons that made us laugh and think. And we’ve seen some that outraged us with their impertinence.
We’ve seen hate speech and calls for peace, love and understanding.
We’ve had “columns about nothing” to amuse, bewitch and bewilder while others did their best to stick it to The Man.
We’ve asked the hard questions and pointed the accusatory finger.
We’ve heard from our critics and our supporters. We’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly.
But the one thing we didn’t see here was a single editorial about the weather — and THAT is something to be proud of.
