LAS to recognize outstanding staff

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will hold its awards convocation and reception Wednesday at 4:10 p.m. in the Campanile Room of the Memorial Union.

Family, colleagues and friends are all invited to the ceremony, which also will include a special reception for university award winners and retiring faculty.

The following awards will be presented at the event:

  • Excellence in Research/Artistic LAS Creativity: Therese Cotton, chemistry (posthumous); Jane Cox, music and theatre program; and Richard Honzatko, biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology.
  • Early Excellence in Research/Artistic Creativity: Susan Conrad, English.
  • Outstanding Teaching: Yasuo Amemiya, statistics.
  • Outstanding Teaching at the Introductory Level: David Stuart, music.
  • LAS Award for Early Excellence in Teaching: Jacqueline Litt, sociology and women’s studies; Valerie Sheares, chemistry.
  • Excellence in Outreach: Thomas Ingebritsen, zoology and genetics.
  • Professional and Scientific Staff Excellence: Cynthia Jenks, chemistry, Ames Laboratory.
  • Ruth W. Swenson Award for Outstanding Advising: Martha Russell, chemistry.
