Ethos hits magazine racks

After a semester of revamping and staff changes, a new edition of Ethos magazine will be ready in time for Veishea 1999.

The publication will hit magazine racks today.

This will be the first issue of Ethos published this year. In November 1998, three of the top editors resigned, and there were rumors that the student publication would be disbanded.

This semester, the setup of Ethos was changed so students who work for the magazine have the option of receiving course credit. Ethos Editorial Adviser Angela Renkoski said currently there are 35 to 40 new students on staff.

Despite all of this, Renkoski said the transition of bringing new staff members onto the staff has been fairly smooth.

“We’ve started from scratch, but everyone has done a great job,” said Renkoski, temporary instructor of journalism and mass communication.

Ethos Business Adviser Marcia Prior-Miller also said this semester has gone well.

“The students have done an incredible job of taking hold and getting things done,” said Prior-Miller, associate professor of journalism and mass communication.

Although there are many new faces working on Ethos, Renkoski said readers can expect an excellent publication.

“Ethos will still have the same high quality of design and writing it’s had in the past,” she said.

Prior-Miller also said students should expect a “really nice” magazine when it comes out.

Students may find that this Ethos is a little thicker than past editions, as this issue will have 72 pages.

“It will have the same black-and-white cover, but since it’s twice the size, it will be nice and thick,” Renkoski said.

Prior-Miller said the new Ethos staff was hoping to produce two issues this semester, but since there was a “major transition,” staff members decided one issue would have to suffice.

However, next year’s readers should expect to see Ethos more frequently, Prior-Miller said.

“GSB has funded Ethos for four issues next semester,” she said, “so we should be more visible.”
