Campus set for egg hunt

This weekend, Iowa State will be hosting a very distinguished guest — the Easter Bunny.

The annual Greek Community Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday at noon on central campus. It is sponsored by the ISU greek community and Wal-Mart, 3015 Grand Ave.

The hunt is for all children between the ages of 3 and 12 in the Ames area. It is free of charge.

Laura Cripple, Panhellenic Council president, said the greek community is excited about the event.

She said she thinks it will be a unique experience not only for the children, but for the participating houses.

“The kids’ most important priority is finding the candy and eggs,” said Cripple, senior in sociology.

“The chapter houses’ priority is interacting with the kids and their parents,” she said.

Heather Kliebenstein, director of special projects for the Panhellenic Council, said each greek house donated $30 to buy 900 plastic eggs and candy to fill them.

Wal-Mart donated an additional 900 plastic eggs.

Kliebenstein, junior in environmental science, said besides donating money, members from every greek house also donated their time to prepare for the hunt.

She said they will fill the eggs with candy, hide them on central campus and watch the hunting frenzy.

“The best part is watching the kids run around having such a good time,” Cripple said.

Laura Saveraid, donations coordinator for Wal-Mart, said the Ames store was happy to donate to the event.

“Helping with anything that involves the children is what we’re looking for,” she said.

Several hundred kids are expected to hunt for the eggs Saturday.

Last year, it took less than an hour for all the eggs to disappear.
