SoapBoxing with a senior student
April 29, 1999
Editor’s note: SoapBoxing is a weekly question-and-answer session with members of the Iowa State community. To honor graduating ISU seniors, Nathan Kinkaid, graduating senior in mechanical engineering, was interviewed.
“Lost & Found” — “The only movie I’ve seen recently is ‘Lost & Found.’ It tried to be too much of an MTV video. It was more about moments than a story.”
Tecmo Super Bowl — “The best video game of all time was Tecmo Super Bowl. The game play was simple, and you could score like 90 points or whatever. It was not too much like football, it was just fun to play with friends.”
Embarrassing moments — “Probably my most embarrassing moment [at ISU] was tripping down the stairs in front of a full house at Grandma Mojo’s. I wasn’t hurt, but it was just embarrassing — everyone can walk down stairs.”
TLC — “The other day I was thinking about that TLC song, ‘No Scrubs’ or whatever. The line is like ‘I don’t want no scrub, a scrub is a man that can’t get no love from me.’ It’s really circular reasoning when you think about it.”
Favorite “Star Wars” character — “Obi-Wan was probably my favorite. He has a cool adage for every situation. He dies right away, but even that couldn’t keep him out of the movies. You’ve got to respect that.”
Disturbing commercials — “I wonder about that new Papa Johns commercial where they say, ‘Our No. 1 ingredient is people.’ That’s the kind of thing a crazy person would do, advertise so no one would suspect it.”
Bad jobs — “The worst job I ever had was door-to-door selling. I could convince people to buy things they didn’t want, and that really weighed on my conscience.”
Fight: Hitler vs. Mussolini — “Any fight between two great fascists is going to come down to reach, and I think Mussolini was taller. Plus, I think that Italians are generally tougher than Germans.”
