The Flaming Lips are throwing back some ideas for a star-studded tour this summer, tentatively titled the Flaming Lips Revue. Potential candidates to join the band on tour include Mercury Rev, Sebadoh, Aphex Twin, Robyn Hitchcock and Pavement.

The lead singer of the Flaming Lips, Wayne Coyne, hopes to get at least four or five bands to perform condensed sets.

“We’ll tell [our] bands, ‘You’ve got 40 minutes, go on stage and do what you’re gonna do. You can set yourselves on fire, we don’t care,'” Coyne told Rocktropolis.

Upcoming Releases

It had been nearly two years since the Stone Temple Pilots had played together, but after a successful reunion show at the Viper Room in Los Angeles, the aging alt-rockers feel they are ready to work on a new album, according to MTV News.

Hopefully STP front man Scott Weiland will be able to take Nancy Reagan’s advice and “just say no” long enough for the band to get the album out by early fall.

“You can’t touch this,” but Tupac Shakur can. M.C. Hammer has been rejuvenated and has plans to issue “War Chest” this summer.

The new record will include tracks made with Shakur and a remade version of Shakur’s “Unconditional Love,” according to MTV News.

While the album probably won’t be as successful as “Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em,” which is the best selling rap album of all time, it should be a nostalgic trip for those who used to wear parachute pants.

The Arsonists’ first full-length album, “As the World Burns,” has an expected street date of July 13, according to the Matador Web site. You can access a snippet of the band’s stuff at www.matador.recs.com/mp3/index.html.
