Agreeing to disagree about priorities

Chris Choukalas

I can’t believe that I’m taking more time out of my life to make my point, but here goes.

I never said athletes were dumb.

You invented that, Shawn, to try to make a point and make me look mean and unreasonable.

I said people who are fanatic sports fans and believe that sports are society’s highest achievement are probably less educated than those who take a more reasonable approach to sports by viewing them as they are: entertainment and revenue.

I guess that means that I already have one data point for my study.

The truth is, the world would be a better place if there were more athletes and fewer fans.

We (especially our kids) should be out there participating in sports instead of “rotting” in the stands, watching some guy get paid a million dollars to do a little dance congratulating himself for merely doing his job.

It saddens me to think that you really place revenue and entertainment above healing the sick, tending to those our society has neglected and creating expressions of the human condition.

I guess this is a matter of personal priorities, and we’ll have to agree to disagree about what’s really important in life.

In the mean time, I’m gonna go shoot some hoops at the rec.

Now THAT’S entertainment.
