Against fascist elitism
April 20, 1999
In response to Jeremy Anhalt (April 19): What exactly were you fighting for as a “veteran”? You stated only those willing to die have a right to an opinion. I must strongly disagree.
Most combat veterans I know, including myself, hoped their sacrifice was so all people would be free to express their opinions, whether or not it was the same as our own.
We stepped up to serve so that all people did NOT have to risk death in order to hold on to these benefits.
“Our” fighting was against that very fascist elitism you seem to support.
That threat against the very core of our freedom was worth risking death and killing — not just for the benefit of those willing to die but for all members of society.
