Fazzaro joins Foundation staff

A new staff member at the ISU Foundation is bringing new ideas to promote the multi-million dollar fund-raising campaign for Iowa State.
Angela Fazzaro, who lives in Ames with her husband, started her new job as accountant for the ISU Foundation on Jan. 4.
“My husband is attending school here, and I moved to Ames with him in August,” she said.
Fazzaro’s responsibilities at the ISU Foundation include monitoring more than 130 trust accounts for the university.
The ISU Foundation’s mission deals with the management and security of private donations to benefit the university.
“Iowa State is very different from the private institutions I’ve worked at before,” Fazzaro said. “There are so many different academic departments and some have multiple accounting departments of their own, which is new to me.”
Places where Fazzaro has held former accounting positions include small, private universities such as St. Edward’s University in Texas.
“I’ve done work in the past with institutions of higher education, and I wish to stay in this line,” she said.
She also has been employed at State Farm Insurance in Texas and Concorde Career Colleges, Inc., in Missouri.
“This is a totally new position for me,” Fazzaro said. “The work has been done in the past, but I’m building the position.”
Fazzaro attended Huston-Tillotson College in her hometown of Austin, Tex., where she received a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Her alma mater varies greatly in size from Iowa State, she said, since Huston-Tillotson has only about 500 students.
Despite the differences between Texas and Iowa, Fazzaro is pleased with the Ames community.
“I’m very glad to be at Iowa State,” she said. “Hopefully, I can make a difference with the students and professionals of this university.”
It seems Fazzaro has already made an impact at the ISU Foundation.
“We’re thrilled to have Angela join us,” said Lisa Eslinger, ISU Foundation controller. “She brings valuable experiences from other colleges and universities.”
