Vote Craft/Toay

Well, the moment you have all been waiting for has arrived. Who does the Daily support for GSB President and Vice-president? Matt Craft and Garrett Toay. Here’s why.

Craft and Toay are personable, accessible and experienced.

Matt Craft acted as an RA and is president of the Richardson Court Association. Craft is a former GSB senator for RCA and has served on the GSB finance committee for the past two years.

Garrett Toay has also served on the GSB finance committee for two years and is a GSB senator representing the Interfraternity Council, and he is vice-president of operations for IFC.

Craft and Toay will be accessible to all Iowa State students, and it doesn’t hurt that they represent both the dorms and the greek system. They have addressed issues important to ISU, such as diversity, student fees allocation and student involvement with GSB.

Craft and Toay see no reason to change student funds and for good reason. “There doesn’t seem to be any outcry from the average student about this issue,” Craft said.

We also agree with their stance on the positive check-off system which does not take into account that many students would be ill-informed as to the variety of groups needing funding and the function those groups serve.

Craft and Toay plan on lobbying the Board of Regents to make them aware of the strain tuition hikes place on students.

Craft and Toay are concerned with diversity. A plus from our perspective is that neither one is interested in eliminating specialty seats which make sure that under-represented students are given a voice in GSB.

Craft and Toay want to get students involved in GSB. In order to do that they plan to initiate a town-forum style radio call in show so students can voice their concerns and get responses from their elected officials.

This is a great way to make sure student voices are heard and a brave step considering the nature of live radio.

Perhaps one of the best aspects of their platform is their dedication to diversity. Craft has said he and Toay will re-create the position of director of minority student affairs GSB cabinet position to help minority students on campus have a stronger voice.

They also plan on working with the university on a multi-cultural center which would benefit all students be they from Iowa or Indonesia.

For all these reasons, Craft and Toay are the Daily’s choice for GSB executives, and we hope you agree
