I said Eudora Pro was the wrong way to go; you wouldn’t listen
February 15, 1999
I feel some small measure of vindication that Eudora Pro has been singled out as the culprit responsible for overloading the mail servers.
As a student representative on LASCAC a few years back, I was among the few opposed to purchasing the site license for Eudora Pro in the first place.
Granted, I was more concerned with the gapping security problems (which have never been corrected) than with the future overload of the mail servers.
But had more folks listened, the current Eudora-related slow down might have been averted or at least delayed.
Nevertheless, I disagree with the solution endorsed by the computation center.
A better and more elegant solution: Let’s teach folks how to use mh.
I admit mh can’t handle all the MIME formats Eudora Pro can, but then I’ve also been opposed to using e-mail as a substitute for FTP.
So learn mh, wean yourself from Eudora and buy a few more months for those overloaded servers. Michael Whaley is right, however, we do need to upgrade eventually.
