Iowa State students and faculty have joined engineers nationwide to celebrate National Engineers Week which began Sunday.

A component of the celebration includes a tour of various Iowa cities by ISU’s College of Engineering Dean James Melsa and University of Iowa College of Engineering Dean Richard Miller.

The pair visited Waterloo Monday to share research conducted jointly by both universities and to promote engineering in the state. The deans will appear at the Rotary Club’s meeting in Des Moines at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Tonight, ISU engineering students and professors will be speaking with high school students and their parents at Valley High School in West Des Moines. The group will set up displays and conduct demonstrations in promotion of ISU’s engineering program.

On Friday, the college will be holding a preview day, which is aimed at prospective minority students and their families.

On Saturday, 120 prospective students and their families will be visiting ISU for Scholar’s Day.

Tom Ligouri, director of external relations for the College of Engineering, said the tours will enable students to “see some of the highlights of what goes on in an engineering college.”

Several other events also are scheduled throughout the week.
