Due to an illness in the band, the Black Sabbath concert scheduled for Feb. 26 at Hilton Coliseum has been cancelled.

Lenny Kravitz has decided to assemble a “mini-package tour” for the masses this summer, but exact dates have not been set.

“It’s a bunch of people and it’s gonna be great. It’s myself, the Black Crowes, Everlast and Cree Summer, a new artist [whose debut record] I produced. So, I put this tour together and we’re gonna be out pretty much all summer with it,” Kravitz told the MTV Radio Network.

For those looking for a more in-your-face event, the first annual New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will begin Apr. 30 at Worcester’s Palladium, according to MTV News.

Gwar, Earth Crisis, Tesatment, Morbid Angel, the Misfits and Napalm Death are among the dozens of groups that will appear at the weekend festival.

This is a weekend hardcore fans definitely won’t want to miss. But start saving your clams; tickets are $22 per day or $55 for the entire festival.

You can get more info via a MassConcerts hotline at (617) 499-9797. Take note: This is not a toll-free call.

For the anti-electric guitar music listener, Ben Folds Five has scheduled a short U.S. tour for this April in support of its upcoming album.

Unfortunately, you’ll have to hop on a plane to catch B.F.F.’s Eastern tour or skip some some school and ride on the Greyhound. But it might be worth it as the group won’t be back to the states for quite some time due to an extensive European tour.

If you really, really enjoy ditching class and don’t mind visiting the East, you can catch HepCat on one of its tour dates scheduled for most of late March.

You may have noticed one of HepCat’s members appearing on the tube. Vocalist Alex Desert won’t be participating in the late spring schedule because he’s too busy appearing on “Becker.”

Upcoming Releases

Tom Waits is expected to reveal his first studio effort in six years, according to MTV News. Epitaph records will release “Mule Variations” on April 27.

This will also be the first album Waits will release since his signing with Epitaph. “They are pro-artist, forward-thinking and I like their taste in music, barbecue and cars,” Waits wrote in a statement.

James Taylor, Perry Farrell, Linda Ronstadt and a few other well-known musicians will contribute vocals to “The Prayer Cycle,” a symphony “which aims to explore the world of prayer and address the future, post-millennium” according to Rocktropolis.

Composer Jonathan Elias’ nine-movement choral symphony will be released on March 23.
