Normal and natural
February 1, 1999
Dan Conner ponders whether homosexuality is normal, natural and moral.
He doesn’t appear to have come to a clear decision, but a simple review of the terms by which he considers defining a same-gender sexual orientation pretty well provide an answer.
Normal and natural. Given that homosexuality occurs without known outside influence, and there is clear evidence to indicate a biological link, both normal and natural apply.
Morality is a man-made thing, based on societal beliefs and understandings.
The very concepts behind morality and morals indicates a choice.
Given the understanding that sexual orientation is not a choice, how can homosexuality be immoral?
Some have taken a position recognizing that sexual orientation is an in-born condition, not a choice, and therefore is not immoral.
But to practice that in-born trait, that they consider immoral.
They say it’s a choice whether or not a gay person practices their sexual orientation.
Viewing morals as a societal/religious phenomenon, how can any rational person believe a person should not be able to have a full life because the very core of their being makes them different from others?
For a religious person to say “you can’t have a full life including romance, love and sex” because God made them different shows a severe lack of understanding of God.
