Burkhardt, White withdraw from GSB executive race

Government of the Student Body President Bryan Burkhardt and Vice President Jamal White have decided not to seek another term in their executive positions.

Burkhardt, senior in computer engineering, said there were several factors that influenced the decision.

“We feel that there are other things that we should be able to commit our time to,” he said. “In my case, my academics played a part, as well as focusing on other things I’d like to accomplish while I’m here at ISU.”

Last Wednesday, several senators brought impeachment charges against Burkhardt for the alleged mishandling of funds from the George Washington Carver special projects account.

The charges later were dropped, and although Burkhardt said the situation did not cause him to make this decision, it did have a small influence.

“It definitely made me realize that GSB played an important part in students’ lives, but there’s always a reality check that needs to be faced, and I got that this week,” he said.

Burkhardt also said he felt campaigning would take up too much of their time.

“In order for Jamal and I to do our jobs effectively, we do not have the time to campaign,” he said.

White, senior in metallurgical engineering, said he and Burkhardt never officially declared they would run again.

“We signed letters of intent … We wanted the option, but it was never a definite thing for us.”

Matt Craft, RCA president, is running for president with Garrett Toay as his vice presidential candidate.

“Bryan and Jamal would definitely have been the front-runners,” said Craft, junior in political science. “It is hard to say who the favorite is now.”
