Dishwasher retrieved from Lake LaVerne

Two unknown persons threw a dishwasher into Lake LaVerne on Saturday night. The unidentified vandals were seen by Union Drive Association Student Security officers late Saturday night throwing the object into the lake.

Lt. Deb Larkin of the Department of Public Safety said UDA Student Security informed DPS of the incident that night. The search was not performed until Sunday, when the Story County Sheriff’s office diving team was available for assistance. After the divers performed a complete search of the lake bottom, the dishwasher was discovered.

“The problem was, it’s so dark down there that even when they found the dishwasher, they didn’t know what it was,” Larkin said. “They knew it had a motor, but that was about it.”

The section of Union Drive along Lake LaVerne was closed Sunday while the divers inspected the lake.

Larkin said the retrieved dishwasher was a green Maytag that was apparently still in good condition.

DPS continues to investigate the incident.
