It’s less than a year until the party of the millennium, and musicians are already lining up gigs. Naturally, it’s time for fans to start making plans for where they are going to be when “the world ends.”

The first place to see the sun rise in the year 2000 is Gisborne City, New Zealand, where David Bowie and Split Enz will be playing a party sure to rock your body.

Bowie will perform at 12:01 a.m. and again at sunrise, during which he will “perform an acoustic millennium song that he wrote for the occasion,” according to MTV News.

In other Y2K news, Phish has decided not to play on Dec. 29, 30, and 31 in Hawaii as originally planned. Promoters said the band is looking for a locality more accessible to their fans, probably in the continental U.S.

Upcoming

On Mar. 23, Gang Starr will reveal its first album on Virgin Records Urban and its fifth album overall, according to a press release.

“Full Clip: A Decade of Gang Starr” will contain over 24 tracks featuring some of the band’s most memorable ditties, as well as two brand-spanking-new songs written exclusively for the greatest hits album.

Last year, Paris hosted an all-star lineup of musicians who played a benefit concert for Amnesty International. Odds are you weren’t there to see Radiohead, Alanis Morissette, Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel and many others perform their little hearts out.

However, on April 3 you’ll be able to see “The Paris Concert For Amnesty International: The Struggle Continues …,” via pay-per-view.

Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, Shania Twain and Tracey Chapman will appear in addition to the aforementioned bands.

About 20 bucks will get you three hours of musical entertainment and interview footage with various musicians, the Dalai Lama and Secretary General of Amnesty Pierre Sane, according to MTV News.

Hole plans to share its celebrity skin with Marilyn Manson as the two groups set out on a collaborative U.S. tour later this month. Assuming neither band kills the other, the duet will arrive in the Midwest in April.

The tour will play at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago on April 20, the Dan County Stadium in Madison, Wis. on April 24, and the Target Center on April 27.

Monster Magnet will open for the co-headline tour.
