Shirley stands firm

Robert W. Bernard

Brava to Shirley Basfield Dunlap! She has answered courageously the vocal minority of those Johnston parents who feared some sort of contamination would take place if their middle-school children saw the uncensored version of “Fires in the Mirror.”

There is no quarter for the censorship of works of art in the academic community.

Parents who are of a mind to curtail vulgarity and offensive language in their communities might better spend their time picketing their local theaters where such language is rampant in even PG and PG-l3 movies.

This type of language may even be found in their own homes if they subscribe to cable television.

The enemy is in your midst, oh righteous Johnstonians, but you have not seen it nor have you engaged it.

Beware!

For Shirley: “A toute dame, tout honneur.”
