R.E.M. plans ‘Sesame Street’ stop

The Drovers will stop in Iowa City for a show at Gabe’s on Friday. The band’s unique sound is sure to make the trip to Iowa City worth the drive.

But if a road trip isn’t on your weekend itinerary, stay in town for a full weekend at the M-Shop.

Little Blue Crunchy Things will play on Friday, House of Large Sizes will play on Saturday and James McMurtry will play on Sunday.

The Krinkles will open for L.B.C.T. at 9 p.m. for a mere four bucks. Bring your dancing shoes for a “thumping good musical party,” as the M-Shop’s calendar puts it.

H.O.L.S. has been making Iowans smile since the ’80s and is faithfully continuing that tradition. Despite an exuberant touring schedule, the trio always makes room for gigs in Iowa.

If you miss the show this weekend, you can still catch H.O.L.S. at Gabe’s in Iowa City on Feb. 27.

For those House fans who haven’t seen the Cedar Falls natives for a while, the husband and wife combo is now playing with new drummer Brent Hanson.

New Releases

Reprise records has contributed to the reincarnation of ’80s bands with last month’s release of “Depeche Mode The Singles 81> 85.”

The album was “previously available only as an import, and this reissue will include two bonus tracks not heard on the original 1985 UK release,” said a Reprise press statement.

The two 1981 recordings “Just Can’t Get Enough (Schizo Mix)” and “Photographic (Some Bizarre Version),” as well as the rest of the tracks have been totally remastered.

“Meeting People Is Easy,” but you’ll have to wait a few months longer to be introduced to Radiohead’s video documentary.

The 94-minute video, which was supposed to be released in January, is now set to hit store shelves April 20, according to MTV News.

In other visual entertainment news, Warner Reprise Video will be releasing 120 minutes worth of Faith No More’s greatest videos.

“Who Cares A Lot? The Greatest Videos” is the visual counterpart to the band’s recently released greatest hits album but features performances not included on the album.

The release date is scheduled for Feb. 23.

Through the Grapevine

“Sesame Street” will get a taste of southern-fried Athens rock when Michael Stipe, Mike Mills and Peter Buck of R.E.M. appear on the children’s show later this month.

R.E.M. will also make an appearance on Fox’s “Party of Five” to play “At My Most Beautiful,” according to MTV News.

The episode will probably air in April.

The video for “At My Most Beautiful” has just been completed and will be released on the airwaves relatively soon.
