Lacking common sense?

Agnes Bischoff

I am a single student living in Hawthorn Court. Are the people involved in relocating of single students truly lacking common sense?

The options they are offering to single student are either move back into the dorms or into the new Hawthorn Court apartments.

Now we are currently living in two-bedroom apartments with a rent of $360 ($180 per roommate).

Most of us are upper-classmen or graduate students who moved out of the dorm because we were getting too old for dorm life.

Are we going to switch from having our own bedroom for $300 a month to sharing one with somebody else for at least $500 a month? Not me!

Our other option is to move in the new apartments.

Last time I checked, those were four-bedroom apartments; that does not fulfill my housing needs very well either.

And again, cost is prohibitive. Those new apartments would cost each roommate $300 dollars just for rent.

The more roommates there are, the lower the cost should be.

Four-bedroom apartments off-campus are below that cost.

Hawthorn Court apartments used to be the best deal in Ames.

The Master Plan is not going to offer anything equivalent. U.V. and Schilletter village are now the best deals in Ames, but single students do not have access to those.

The next best deal is off-campus. At least, my money will not go to the Department of Residence.

They have not shown much interest in my well-being lately.
