Love is hate

Brendan Speer

Let me begin by saying that I am not a Christian. I do not believe it is anyone’s place to judge anyone else or anything.

However, I take offense to Mr. Conner’s argument in the Jan 27 Daily. The way I read his argument is, “I love everyone, so I hate some of them.”

Now, I suppose that if you believe that love is hate, and I know people who do, then this is fine. But I don’t believe this, and I doubt he believes this.

For ages, people have been hiding behind the rhetoric Mr. Conner used in his letter. They believe it is their job to cleanse these “sinners” of their “sins.” They discriminate, enslave, and sometimes even immolate people who “have sinned.” Mr. Conner says this is love.

Slavery is love. Burning at the stake is love.

Does anyone else find this ludicrous? I respect your ability and right to hate people. But hate them, do not hide behind a bunch of circular rhetoric to call your hate “love.”
