Gymnasts win again

Records fell with rapid succession Friday, as the Iowa State gymnastics team recorded its highest team total of the season en route to a 194.625-193.150 victory over Missouri.

Junior Sarah Stayberg captured two events for the Cyclones, the all-around and uneven bars. Stayberg scored a season-high 38.950 in the all-around competition and another season-high score of 9.875 on the uneven bars. She also set a career high in the floor exercise with a score of 9.850 and tied a career high with a score of 9.75 on the vault.

Freshman Shelly Kringen took first on the floor exercise with a score of 9.850, tied a career-high on the balance beam with a score of 9.875 and set a career-high mark in the all-around competition with a score of 38.90.

Junior Kelli More placed first on the balance beam with a season-high score of 9.90 and notched a season-high score on the uneven bars with a score of 9.850.

Sophomore Angie Umbaugh, returning from injury, set a career-high on the uneven bars with a score of 9.70 and season-high scores on the balance beam, vault and floor exercises with scores of 9.70, 9.70 and 9.80, respectively.

Senior Michelle Hladky, with a score of 9.825 on the uneven bars, recorded a season-high.

On the balance beam and floor exercise, sophomore Lauren Goldberg set career-highs with scores of 9.825 and 9.775, respectively.

Overall, the 12th ranked Cyclones captured four of five events and currently hold an overall record to 5-2.

Next up for the Cyclones is a home meet this Friday against the Oklahoma Sooners. The meet starts at 7 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum.
