SoapBoxing: Causing Mayhem with Josephson
January 29, 1999
Editor’s Note: SoapBoxing is a weekly feature by Daily reporter Ben Godar. Throughout the semester, he will be interviewing people in the Ames community, soliciting their opinions on a wide range of topics. To suggest someone for an interview, send an e-mail request to [email protected]. This week Godar interviewed Rob Josephson, co-owner of Mayhem Collectibles.
“The Hobbit” — “I don’t get a chance to read much. I re-read the [J.R.R. Tolkien] trilogy because I heard they’re going to make [‘The Hobbit’] into a movie. Every time a fantasy film comes out, they always borrow from Tolkien; it’s interesting to see.”
Godfather’s Pizza — “Their sauce isn’t as overpowering as some; it’s basically a pretty good blend.”
“The Jackal” — “I basically just got mad at the film because of all the logic errors. I usually like [Bruce Willis and Richard Gere], but that just insulted my intelligence. Basically, it just stunk on ice.”
Milk: 2 percent vs. skim — “I can drink skim, but it’s like drinking white water. Two percent has more taste, and I think it comes from the fat.”
Lousy Christmas presents — “An aunt I hadn’t seen for about four years sent me a Barbie doll; she thought I was a girl. She was old, got confused, sent me a doll. I think I was seven.”
TV shows that shouldn’t have been canceled — “First, ‘Babylon 5.’ I really enjoyed that show; I thought they did a good job. I felt the last season was not quite as good as the first four, but they could have done a better job wrapping things up. Second, ‘Brisco County Jr.’ Being a Bruce Campbell fan, it was nice to see him stick to the same genre but experiment with the Western theme. It was very nice western sci-fi.”
Favorite Toy — “[When I was a kid] I had a Six Million Dollar Man doll, Steve Austin. It was my favorite show as a kid growing up. That and probably ‘G.I. Joe.’ I had to prove to myself I wasn’t feminine by getting a doll for Christmas.”
Fight: Spiderman vs. Batman — “Batman is more cunning and has more cool toys, but Spiderman has Spider sense so he can counteract every move [Batman] makes. He has super strength too, one punch would send Batman into the Gotham City retirement home. Intelligence-wise, Batman, but strength-wise, Spidey.”
