Patty Jischke helps protect children’s assets

Daily Staff Writer

Patty Jischke, wife of Iowa State President Martin Jischke, will team up with Denise Denton, prevention specialist with Youth and Shelter Services, 420 Kellogg Ave., to field questions from the public in a discussion titled “Asset Building.”

Jischke and Denton will speak Friday beginning at 9 a.m. on “Mel in the Morning,” a local radio show on 1430 KASI-AM.

Listeners are invited to call the show at 232-1430 with any questions and comments.

Asset Building is a state-wide program for Iowa children and youth to protect and prevent them from getting involved in a wide range of risky behaviors.

The program stresses 40 assets as defined by the Search Institute in Minneapolis that contribute to lifelong success.

The assets are put into two main groups, external and internal, and are further broken down into categories such as support and empowerment.

Jischke and Denton would like to build these assets among the youth of Story County and will address this and other issues on the radio show Friday morning.
