ACCESS
January 20, 1999
When I think of the experiences in my life that have made me who I am now and who I will become, many different experiences run through my mind.
However, the thing that has really made the biggest impact on me has been my time volunteering at ACCESS.
ACCESS has taught me that by believing and standing up for something, I can make a difference.
I encourage you to become a volunteer at ACCESS. ACCESS, a battered woman’s shelter and rape crisis hotline, provides many free, confidential services to the community. As a volunteer, you will be able choose what aspect you want to get involved in.
As a volunteer, you have a lot of freedom. Anything you choose to do is greatly appreciated. Shelter shifts are four hours long and are normally completed at 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends.
Some volunteer positions, such as the outreach volunteer, do not have set hours.
ACCESS would not be here without the help of its wonderful volunteers.
When I was a volunteer, I was always told how important the job that volunteers do is, but I never really took it to heart that I was making a difference. Now that I have moved on to being staff at ACCESS, I truly realize how important volunteers are and what a difference they make.
If you would like more information on volunteering at ACCESS, call 232-5418 and talk to Krista, ACCESS’ volunteer coordinator.
