“A Christmas on Sixth Avenue — A Lecture on Race, Poverty and Public Life” will be held today at 8 p.m. in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union.

Mitchell Duneier, associate professor of sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will be presenting his research. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Duneier is the author of “Slim’s Table: Race, Respectability and Masculinity,” which won the American Sociological Association’s Distinguished Publication Award and the Chicago Sun Times Chicago Book of the Year Award.

The evening talk will be the first Charles Mulford Lecture in Social Organization. It is sponsored by the sociology department, the Committee on Lectures and the LAS Miller Fund.
