A memorial service for Joan Dee Rottler, Iowa State instructor of religious studies, will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in the Campanile Room of the Memorial Union.

Rottler, 55, was a faculty member in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies for 11 years. She died Nov. 21, after a four-year battle with breast cancer.

A scholarship for students who are majoring in religious studies is being established in her memory.

Contributions or gifts to the fund can be sent to the ISU Foundation, marked “attn: Joan Dee Rottler Memorial Fund.”

Simonson appeal denied by Board

The Iowa State Board of Regents voted unanimously Nov. 17 to deny an appeal filed by Michael Simonson, a former Iowa State professor who was charged with sexually harassing three former students.

ISU President Martin Jischke released a statement Aug. 6, concurring with the proposed decision of Administrative Law Judge Donald Bohlken, which stated there was evidence that Simonson was guilty of the charges.

According to The Tribune, Simonson’s next option is to appeal the decision in district court.
