Three finalists have been selected for the position of director of environmental health and safety.

The finalists are A. David Inyang, associate director of environmental health and safety; George W. MacDurmon, radiation safety officer at the American Cyanamid Company, Agricultural Products Research Division, Princeton, N.J.; and Thomas C. Ouimet, associate director of occupational health and safety at Yale University, New Haven, Conn.

MacDurmon is scheduled to interview for the position Thursday, and Ouimet will interview Dec. 16. Inyang interviewed for the position Tuesday.

The current director of environmental health and safety, Emery Sobottka, is retiring after 40 years at Iowa State.

According to a press release, the director of environmental health and safety works to provide a safe and healthy environment for ISU employees, students and visitors.

The responsibilities of the directors include general safety, hazardous waste, radiation safety, environmental safety and industrial hygiene.

Inyang has been at ISU since 1989. He has served in the Department of Environmental Health and Safety, the environmental programs manager and is currently the associate director of the department.

MacDurmon has served as the managing associate director of the radiation safety office at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa. He is certified in comprehensive health physics by the American Board of Health Physics.

Ouimet has been a staff member at Yale University, New Haven, Conn., since 1988.
