Anyone concerned with an Iowa Department of Transportation project that may threaten the Eddyville Dunes in southeastern Iowa can gather in front of the Ames DOT offices today at noon.

The Eddyville Dunes are a unique landform containing a rare sandhill prairie community and adjacent wetlands, according to a press release from the Sierra Club.

Several endangered and threatened plant and animal species reside in the dunes, as well as a complex water system.

A speaker from the Sierra Club will give a presentation about the DOT’s responsibility to obey laws concerning environmental protection that could preserve the dunes.

The DOT office is located at the intersection of Lincoln Way and Grand Avenue. Parking is available at the DOT visitor lot and also at surrounding businesses.
