Country stars to boot, scoot and boogie into Ames

Surprised? Unless you are an avid listener to country radio stations or spend a lot of time in the bathrooms at Hunky Dory’s, you probably are.

That’s right, Reba and Brooks & Dunn are coming back to Ames. And this time, they’re bringing Terri Clark and David Kersh with them.

After having the highest grossing tour in the history of country music in 1997, the duet decided to go back out on “60 cities in six months” tour, a press release said.

“Just as the concept of two superstar acts touring together last year motivated us, this year we knew we had something exciting to go out there with again,” co-manager for Brooks & Dunn Clarence Splading said in a press release. “The audience will get four great talents and one huge show.”

The idea for the touring duet came after Reba and Brooks & Dunn released their popular song “If You See Her/If You See Him.”

Both acts have had their share of triumph in the country music business, and both have been chosen for some of country music’s top awards.

Reba has been declared Top Female Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music five times in her career. She was also named Female Vocalist of the Year by the Country Music Association four times.

She’s also been named Entertainer of the Year by numerous country music associations, according to the Reba Web site.

Although Reba has experienced enormous success for many years, she thinks many people, including herself, waste their youth struggling to find out who they are.

“It’s so nice to be at the point in my life where you don’t feel such as urgency to constantly prove yourself,” she said in a press release. “Like I’ve always said, everyone wants to be loved and accepted, and security is born from that.”

Many new artists have cited Reba as one of their role models in the country music industry.

“I’ve been so fortunate to be able to watch Reba and how she makes her decisions,” country singer Linda Davis said. “I’ve learned so much from her.”

In addition, Brooks & Dunn have had their share of top vocal awards. They have been awarded Top Vocal Duet and Vocal Duo of the Year by CMA, ACM and TNN/Music City News Awards for the last seven consecutive years.

“I think it’s the fear factor that really keeps us going,” said Kix Brooks about the inspiration for the new album, “If You See Her.”

Both singers agreed to make their new album one that feels good to them, instead of worrying about what others expect, said Ronnie Dunn in a press release.

Brooks & Dunn credit their energy and inventiveness to their “fierce blue collar work ethics,” according to a press release. They said their lives outside of music keep their music fresh, energized and mature.

Brooks is married with two children, and Dunn is married with three children. Dunn has been known to change his schedule solely to attend his son’s wrestling matches.

Brooks stays active with his children as well by coaching his son’s soccer team, a press release said.

“Every time we go out on stage, it’s still just real exciting to see all those people screamin’ and hollerin’ and jamming the stage,” Brooks said.

Terri Clark is well known for her songs such as “You’re Easy On the Eyes” and “Emotional Girl.” Clark said her new album “How I Feel” is a big change from her first two albums.

“I love my first two albums, but I really wanted to grow emotionally and musically. I could have done another adolescent, euphoric album, but you can’t keep repeating yourself,” said Clark in her biography.

David Kersh, who has gained fame with songs such as “Goodnight Sweetheart” and “If I Never Stop Loving You,” is known for being wild and jumping in the middle of crowds, a press release reported.

“I cover a broad spectrum of music … which is a good reflection of who David Kersh is — there’s a lot of me,” he said.

There will be no question on Friday — when 40 tons of equipment, 16 tractor trailers and 10 busses roll into Ames — that Reba and Brooks & Dunn are here.

The country music spectacular is Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum. Tickets are $42.50.
